Back in England I was well known for my love of stiletto shoes, I frequently wore low-cut figure hugging tops, was always accessorised, often made-up and I had an intimate relationship with my GHDs. But here I dress like I am going to a Young Conservatives’ tea party – flat shoes, baggy tops with a neck line up to my collarbone, no accessories, no makeup & no hair straighteners.
On the one hand I acknowledge that this is for the best – I get enough attention (& complements) as it is and certainly do not want to encourage more. But on the other hand I feel like I am loosing a little bit of myself… my heels gave me a bit of a swing in my step, I gained a certain confidence from flicking my straightened hair – here I go for days without looking in a mirror at all. Maybe this is a good lesson against narcissism, but I’ve had enough already.
This weekend Zoe and I are going to the beach, so as well as looking forward to the sun, sea and sand I am also looking forward to wearing a bikini and feeling (just a little bit) sexy.

What you are is from within, everything else is all cosmetic.
Don't look at it as you are losing yourself, rather, you are rediscovering the real you without all the commercial stuff.
Find yourself without being dictated to by what society wants you to be.
Some people don't ever feel/look sexy and strive for it all their lives, be happy in the solace that you have had that and can have it again.
what's with the 'from within' stuff - 'society', socialisation etc has (and always will) to a large extent dictate much of who we are, unless one is mis-guided enough to believe that they can remain free of these things. Yes, challenge, experience and critique difference, but dont over interpret such things - people dress, behave and interact in ways that are their own choice based on life-long experience and learning (actually, you're pretty much fully pre-programmed before the age of 5!.... anyway, more bikini shots and soul-searching discussions about sex would be much appreciated!

I have been pondering this blog all weekend and thinking on how to word my thoughts and there it is!! dt has done it again! Great minds and all that.
I don't know about the sex discussions though, perhaps I'm better off keeping out of that one.
Be more interested in how the locals have been influenced by the more 'visual' culture in the tourist areas.
hmm, I would have thought it is pretty common (and not a bad thing) that when someone goes out having brushed their hair, in their favourite clothes and generally having made the most of themselves (whether for each individual that involves matching handbags, lip gloss or in my case high heels) you get a certain 'spring in your step'...?
I don't know what she's on about - Karen still looks lovely in Ruteng, and still manages to flash a bit of cleavage sometimes - those 'young conservative' shirts really need extra safety pins to stop them gaping.
Zoe
p.s her blog is much more entertaining than mine - i might have to plaguarise some of these posts x x
